At least that I know of. At work a colleague was talking about a documentary he he had seen, something about weird worms, and apparently also about Darwin. At the mention of the name this suit from Sales or Administration, or something like that gets all defensive, asks "you don't actually believe in evolution?", etc.
I'm sitting between the two of them and I reply that I sure do believe in evolution and the Creationist suit begins the whole routine:
"Darwin was wrong about lots of things," "the transitional species are missing, even "It's still a theory," I kid you not.
I explain how Darwin was amazingly right about most things, that a theory is a scientific explanation and that the word does not imply uncertainty or lack of evidence, that the evidence for evolution is overwhelming and icludes fossils, genes, phylogeny, etc.
I explained how one human chromosome matches two ape chromosomes and how there was obviously a fussion even in our lineage. He replied to that with the lame line about how that proves a common designer and I answered that it really didn't, it was just a post hoc rationalization and that evolution actually explained and had predicted the similarities.
He finished by offering to lend me a DVD to which I joked hat I hoped it was not Kent Hovind's. He answered "oh, so you know him?"
I've had this kind of RL argument with believers in all kind of paranormal, New Age stuff, but this was my first live Creationist. They are rare here, or at least the know to shut up about it. I'm glad that years of debating Creationists and learning about evolution prepared me to be able to speak up and answer Creationist nonsense when I encountered it.Current Music: Sturmlied-Allerseelen-Edelweiss

I'm finally at my new place. It's still a bit of a mess, lots of boxes and not enough furniture, but it's getting there. I'll post pictures soon.Current Music: Radio 6-Edward Ka-Spel-Red Letters

First of all I want to thank everyone who replied to my last post, so thank you, your comments meant a lot to me. I want to get back into the habit of updating my LJ, it's just kind of difficult to think of what to write, I have very little time for anything non work-related (boring computer stuff) lately, I have been able to do very little reading or drawing, or other things I like. Luckily, kooks can always be counted to provide content, this strange message came from a MySpace "friend" I recently added back after she contacted me. I had not gotten the impression this person was crazy, but apparently a reply of mine she saw on one of the many, many threads about "2012" prompted her to send me this strange, incoherent message:
"read your post about 2012 and the shifting of the planets. sure the is no evidence... but how do you explain the strange behavior and events nearing an on the eclipse in febuary 2007. 2012 also marks the end of the myan calander or something as well, look at historical dates through out time and look and how the same days often hold a different annual significance. is it co-incidence? i am a firm believer in the presents of some type of zog form, wether it be man made or not. i do not believe zog is owned by alins though. i do believe the nutrients are being drained from our food and the food we have is poisioning us. so is the water. look at the status of "illnesses". look back as early as 1980. now look at what is diagnosed as an illness. most of the things you write fit the description of an "illness" of some sort. when you concider the experiment that have gone on in the past and today regarding the stargate theory and the time and space continum. why so much research and lost lives over something that dosent exist? i have also read your posts on the darwin theory in the past. darwin theory often appeals to those in poor or weak heath standards. is this co-incidence? what about the lemarks theory (might be mispelled). it involves adaptation to ensure survival. some of it is nuts but some of it is actually quite possible. just making you think ;)"
Honestly, I don't know how to begin replying to this. It's a mess of vague, inconsistent, disconnected, false, and incomprehensible claims. Just one non-sequitur after another. The reference to "zog" is troubling, ZOG is an acronym for Zionist Occupational Government, and is used by Neo-Nazis and other antisemites who believe the Jews rule the world. Then again, the sentence is so incoherent "zog" could mean anything.
